Methods and apparatus for providing improved quality of packet
transmission in applications such as internet telephony

Describes a strategy for increasing efficiency of transmission of
audio streams that travel via a modem link, then over the Internet. It
involves encoding the data as TCP streams when transmitting across the
error-correcting modem link, then translating to UDP packets for
transmission over the Internet, taking advantage of the different
characteristics of TCP and UDP protocols.

Apparatus for providing caller ID services in internet telephony
system

A means of providing information about caller identification to
internet telephony users, using two local switches linked to the
caller and callee. The two local switches communicate over dedicated
transmission channels, exchanging information about the identity of
the two parties.

Describes a method for converting IP telephony messages from one
format to another, by receiving the message using software that
handles one compression scheme, translating it into another
compression scheme, and sending the resulting message out via software
handling the second compression scheme.
