Dan Ports 2002/04/05 Impromptu, http://impromptu.media.mit.edu/ The Impromptu project used iPaq PDAs and wireless audio streaming to create a platform for various distributed audio applications. Because the project I'm working on uses some code from Impromptu, I was already familiar with parts of what they had done, but I felt it would be interesting to look at the rest of their results as well. Their site had quite a bit of helpful information about their project, explaining the interface and architecture of both their audio-based applications and the platform. The details of how they implemented streaming audio were directly related to what I'm working on now (though for the most part, I had that information previously), as was the telephony application they described. It was also especially interesting to read their results of user evaluation of their speech-based user interface.
